Four- and five-year-olds are all about independence, and are beginning to consider what others are thinking and feeling, too. They need a strong foundation of natural curiosity, cooperation, confidence, communication skills, and an opportunity for learning experiences as they get ready to go to Kindergarten.
At Happy Trails Learning Center, we know that early literacy competency is a strong indicator of not only literacy, but also overall success once a student reaches school age. Our Kindergarten Readiness Program is designed to enhance the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of each child. Our theme-based curriculum includes activities such as:
- letter recognition and letter sounds;
- science;
- social studies;
- math;
- verbal communication skills;
- creative arts;
- physical development;
- social emotional skills;
- writing; and
- other educational experiences within classroom learning centers.
More structured planning and regular routines help establish the stability and consistency students need to feel sure of themselves, and help move them toward the scheduled environment of school. This curriculum experience will help move the child from being dependent to self-direction. Classroom learning centers are altered weekly to correlate to the learning plan, and sustain students’ interest and involvement.
Kindergarten Readiness students are assessed 1-2 times during the calendar school year. This will help guide teachers and parents alike to tailor each child’s learning experience and help insure they are meeting or exceeding the standards set by the Texas Education Agency for kindergarten readiness.
